What is encryption and decryption

Encryption changes data so that it is meaningless to anyone who does not have a key to unscramble it. For example, ‘Hello’ might be changed to “2kdi&k4”. After you encrypt data, only you and the people you choose can decrypt (unscramble) the information to make it readable again.

Use Privacy to encrypt and decrypt

• e-mail and e-mail attachments,

• any text that you can cut and paste, such as a

paragraph in an e-mail or the contents of a cell in a spreadsheet,

• a file,

• a directory, or

• all user data on a removable disk.
